FRIGHT of the Bumblebee!
This is a high-octane tribute to Rimsky-Korsakov's classic, "Flight of the Bumblebee" which I wrote in 2006 for big band. The concert band adaptation was written by Frank Sullivan, who is an outstanding composer/arranger with a vast catalog of original music and show designs for high school bands and drum corps. The piece is written at a grade 4 level for concert band, and it's A LOT of fun!
Normally I perform this as a solo piece, but for this particular concert, I had the pleasure of performing it as a duet with Sinske, a fantastic Japanese marimba soloist and recording artist. We had a great time performing this together.

This recording is from January, 2007 with the Hamasho high school concert band at 'Act City Music Hall' in Hamamatsu, Japan. I've had the pleasure of performing with Hamasho two years in a row. They're one of the most disciplined, hard-working bands I've ever seen, and their director, Mr. Saiki is one of the greatest, most dedicated band directors I've ever met. It was a real joy to work with this group!
